# Manufactured urgency closer

Part of [The AI Tells Index](https://feedsquad.com/ai-tells). A tell signals low effort. It does not identify an author. Skilled writers produce every shape listed here, some of them daily, and automated detectors misread those writers for it at rates measured above 60 percent on non-native English prose. Nothing in this index proves that a machine wrote anything. Read an entry as one piece of evidence to weigh against the false-positive notes printed beside it.

## Description

A warning that time is running out, with no date, deadline or event behind it. The stock forms say a window is closing or the clock is ticking. Others warn that a gap widens or that the reader will get left behind. It usually lands as the last line of a post about a technology shift.

## Why it reads as machine-written

The urgency is borrowed from sales copy and attached to a claim that has no clock. A writer with a real deadline names it. Assistant drafts about technology adoption reach for the closer when the body has run out of facts. The post then ends on a feeling in place of a finding.

## Detection

Type: deterministic (a regular expression, run as written)

Scope: sentence

ECMAScript regular expression. The build validator compiles it and tests it against this entry's own specimens.

```regex
\b(?:window\s+is\s+(?:narrowing|closing)|(?:be|get|being|getting)\s+left\s+behind|clock\s+(?:started|is\s+ticking)|will\s+be\s+untouchable|gap\s+widens)\b
## Examples
Constructed specimens. Written for this index. Never quoted from anyone's posts.
### Specimen 1
Before, exhibiting the tell:
> Every week another team ships an agent into production. The window is closing for everyone else.
After, repaired:
> Two of the five teams we spoke to in September run an agent in production. Both started with one internal workflow, and both said the first month went to permissions.
Note: Figures in this repair are invented for the specimen.
### Specimen 2
Before, exhibiting the tell:
> Sales teams are changing how they work. Adapt now or get left behind.
After, repaired:
> Our sales team now drafts first-touch emails with a model and edits every one by hand. Reply rates have not moved. The time saved went into calls, which is where the deals still close.
Note: The repair is invented for the specimen.
## False positives
Who legitimately writes this way.
Real deadlines produce the same words. A grant call closes, a tax filing date arrives and a product reaches its sunset, and saying so is information. Policy writing uses left behind as a technical term for groups a programme failed to reach. The check is whether a date, a named event or a cost follows the warning. When none does, the urgency is decoration.
   Corpus: The doom_closer rule in FeedSquad's lint_patterns registry, seeded on 2026-06-10 and applied to agent drafts at every scheduling transition since. The registry records the rule and its rationale. No prevalence count was kept, so this is an editorial judgement rather than a measurement.
## Status history
Ids are permanent. A retired tell keeps its id and its page.
- 2026-10-06, Active: Opened as active with low severity. The closer has been on FeedSquad's banned-pattern registry since June 2026 as the doom_closer rule. No external measurement of it exists, so the grade is our own observation.
