Chief vs Hermes Agent
Hermes Agent is an open-source personal agent you run on your own machine. Chief is a hosted marketing lead with a team behind it. Here is how they differ, with sources.
What Hermes Agent is
Hermes Agent is a personal AI agent from Nous Research, released under the MIT license. It writes reusable skills from the tasks it completes, keeps a short memory about you and searches past sessions.
You install it on your own computer or server with an install script. One gateway connects it to Telegram, Discord, Slack, Signal, the command line and more, and its built-in scheduler can run a prompt on a timetable and deliver the result to any of them.
It suits people who want one agent for many kinds of work, are comfortable running software themselves and want to choose their own model.
Where Hermes Agent is ahead
- It is free, open-source software. You can read the code and run it on your own hardware.
- You choose the model. Nous Portal is an optional subscription for models and tools.
- It reaches many more chat apps than Chief.
- It takes on general work: files, code and browsing.
Running it yourself
Its security docs say the local backend runs commands on your machine with no isolation, and the default approval mode has a model rate each risky command, with unclear ones sent to you. Container and remote backends add isolation. Messaging access stays closed until you allow specific users.
What Chief is
Chief is FeedSquad’s AI marketing lead. It plans your week, drafts posts for LinkedIn, X and Threads, and coordinates the agents on your plan. It does that one job, in five ways.
Integrated
A team stands behind Chief. Specialist agents draft each format, Handler publishes to LinkedIn, X and Threads, and Stash is the brand memory they all read. Briefings and approvals come to Telegram, and an email brief arrives on working days.
Inside your brand rules
Drafts start from Stash: your voice and facts, each marked approved or blocked. Your “never again” rules carry into every plan. Proactive pings stop at 5 a working day and arrive only in your working hours.
Approval first
Nothing publishes until you approve it, and your edit is the text that ships.
Marketing flows only
A weekly plan with its reasons, the posts per channel that carry it out, and results that feed the next plan. Chief is not a general-purpose assistant.
No setup
Chief is hosted. Sign up and connect your channels. There are no servers, API keys, skills or hosting to manage.
